Sunny with a high of 75

I had the most marvelous idea today. It's a lovely day. About 75-80 degrees out, slightly over cast with a lovely breeze. At my current job location, I can easily walk downtown without having to cross any major roads. Downtown is quite small, and there are several boutiques and restaurants, a coffee shop, a library, and other various businesses and services. It's basically the perfect downtown.

Today, I brought a pair of comfortable flats to work. On my lunch hour I walked downtown. I was smiling so much while walking. It was beautiful and breezy. I waved to the older gentleman blowing grass clippings off of his lawn. He smiled and nodded, pointing his leaf blower away from me as I walked past. I admired all the lovely houses on Main Street and thought, how lovely it would be to live here. I could so easily walk to work!

I went to the library and picked up a book. I sat in the park and ate a sandwich. I began to read my book. I breathed in the lovely air and I walked cheerfully back to work. It was a total of 1.7 miles. I think I was walking for around 35 minutes. It took me 12 minutes to walk to the library, another 10 minutes to the park, and 13 minutes back to campus. It was so refreshing that I'm going to try to do this two to three times each week. It's good to get a little bit of exercise, but more importantly, I get out of my computer chair and away from the internet! I clear my head and think about what needs thinking about. If there's nothing that needs thinking, then I just appreciate my surroundings.

K-Swiss and I have considered moving to a different apartment in October when our lease is up. The new apartment is a third of a mile from Main Street and one mile from the campus where I work. If we do, I will start walking to work, maybe biking. The apartment is less than one mile from a local butcher, the bank, the vet the post office, the library, and of course various restaurants and boutiques. Bi-Lo, Aldi, Food Lion, CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Walmart, and my hair salon are all between one and two miles away from the apartment (though Bi-Lo, Food Lion, and Walmart are across a main road). I can't imagine a more ideal scenario than one where I can walk almost everywhere! I should have taken advantage of that when I lived so close to downtown in the past, but I was supremely lazy.

You know what? I'm going to need a bike!
