Louie Louie Louie Lou-ieeee. Louie Louie Louie Lou-ahhhh

Someone left the building door open at work today, just to let some air in (it's a lovely day here) and, after all, delivery trucks were coming and going. At about 10:30, I got my kinda-boss to sign my timesheet. I walked to the door and stopped.

"Hey," I said. "There's a kitty!" I walked out to the hall. My co-workers followed. What we found was a gorgeous, very healthy, flea-less, fixed, female tortoiseshell domestic short-hair.  We pet her and gave her a little water.

"She doesn't look like an outdoor cat," said someone. We decided that a student had probably loved this kitty for a semester and then let her go. Why do they do that? I don't know but it's a problem. A lot of students get cats and then get tired of taking care of them. They just let them out. Every few years we have serious problems with feral cat colonies and have to call in animal control.

I knew I wanted her the moment I saw her, but that's true about many cats I see. She's very loving and a bit of a beggar. She likes tuna (we had some in the office and gave it to her) and cream cheese frosting (she only had a taste! It was my birthday cake), but not chicken.

Her name is Louis (pronounced Louie) after Louis CK. Our other kitty is George, after George Carlin... and they're both girls LOL!

She was my surprise birthday prezzie! Since we've got two cats, I've got a temporary set up in my bedroom. A litterbox, food and water. Louis stays in my room, George has the run of the house. I've sprinkled cat nip on two separate blankets for the two cats to lay on and play with. Tomorrow I'll switch out the blankets and go back and forth for a while. I'll wait maybe a week before introducing them at all. They saw each other when I came home with Louis and they both hissed. On Saturday, maybe, I'll put Louis in a carrier and bring the carrier into the living room. George can check it out. We'll see how that works. I really hope they get along eventually. I love George, but I've been wanting a playmate for her.

Pics soon. I've put Louis' blanket into a bootbox (shoe box for boots...) and she's cuddled up there now. It's terribly adorable.
