More than you ever wanted to know about my dental habits

I don't have the best dental hygiene habits. I brush every day, of course. But I often forget to brush before bed. And forget about flossing. I hardly even use Listerine, despite having a whole liter of citrusy mouthwash.

But, I'm all anal about having good healthy habits (except when it comes to eating, of course. BACON AND COFFEE). I always wear sunscreen and sunglasses. I wash and moisturize my face every night. Never forget the eye cream. I try to drink between 6-8 8oz glasses of water a day (I'll count real fruit juice, but not soda or kool-aid). It seems silly that I don't always drink six glasses of water a day, but there you have it. I rarely drink these days. I don't smoke -- Interesting aside, I almost took up smoking. Two things stopped me. 1) K-Swiss is extremely opposed to it. Extremely. 2) It ages you quite quickly! I once read an Allure article about anti-aging, with tips and advice. When it was listing all the things to do (stay hydrated, eat healthy, don't smoke), it said that it was okay if your only reason for stopping smoking was for your looks. Who cares if that sounds shallow, as long as you stop! Anyway, in the end, I'm glad I didn't start.

So, anyway, yeah. Good habits. Good dental habits are also important to good health and good aging. And I hear women say all the time that you have to take care of your skin because it needs to last you a lifetime. The same is true with your teeth. You only get one set of (adult) teeth! So, I figure, I'll brush my teeth and such when I'm doing my nightly ablutions.

I've been happily able to keep this up. I'm usually quite terrible at instating new routines. This may be gross, but I've always had a problem with my gums bleeding when I floss, and sometimes when I brush, too. And I'm not overly rough. I just had unhealthy gums is all. I'll have you no that there was not so much as a pink tinge to the floss today. I was quite pleased.

Especially as I don't have insurance and cannot afford dental bills if I happened to need some serious work! I suppose that is motivation as well.
